Dr. Linda Burleson Byler

Dr. Linda Burleson Byler passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center, leaving behind a remarkable legacy defined by her deep devotion to her faith and family, academic achievement, and professional distinction.
 
Linda’s life was characterized by strong values and profound love for her family and friends.  She was known for her loving, caring nature, always cherishing time spent with those close to her.  She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  Family gatherings, hosted with her signature generosity and creativity, were made especially memorable by her talents as an exceptional cook.  She and her husband, Ben, opened their home to friends, family and those with whom they worked and taught.  Her ability to listen, coupled with her vibrant personality, left an enduring impression on all who knew her. She will be remembered with deep respect, admiration and affection.
 
Linda was a faithful Christian and a member of Cookeville First Baptist Church.  Her commitment to her Lord was one of her greatest strengths.


Dr. Byler’s educational journey began in Star City, Arkansas, where she was raised.  She received a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University, a master’s degree from the University of Illinois, and a doctorate from Mississippi State University.  Her educational pursuits reflected a passion for growth and expertise that she subsequently brought to her professional life.


A respected leader in her field, Dr. Byler retired as a Program Leader with the University of Tennessee Extension Service.  In this capacity, she worked closely with Extension Agents, developing innovative programs.  She was well known for hosting numerous 4-H and FFA dinners. She received numerous awards during her professional career.

 
She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Dr. Ben Byler; her sons, Bryan Byler and Kerry Byler; daughters-in-law, Arlene Byler and Kerri Byler; beloved grandchildren, Trey, Knox and Josie Byler; her sisters, Judy Williams and Carolyn Crawford; brothers-in-law, Bill Crawford and Sidney Byler; sister-in-law, Sherry Byler; and a host of nieces and nephews.  Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Berniece Burleson, and her father, Wayne Burleson.


In celebration of Linda’s life, a visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home.  A graveside service will take place on Tuesday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Rowell Cemetery in Rison, Arkansas.


Memorial contributions in Dr. Byler’s memory may be made to the University of Tennessee Extension 4-H Foundation or the Tennessee FFA Foundation.
