New Countertop Company Brings Craftsmanship, Transparency to Cookeville Market
COOKEVILLE — A new name in the Upper Cumberland is aiming to change how homeowners experience one of the most critical phases of home renovation: the countertop installation.
At Craftsman Countertops, a family-owned business, owners say customers are doing more than just choosing a slab of stone—they are becoming an integral part of the fabrication process from start to finish.
“We manage expectations,” said Co-Owner Ben Bucher. “By the time we install, there are no surprises. The customer knows exactly what they’re getting.”
A Hands-On Process
From the moment a customer walks through the showroom door, the experience is designed to be transparent. After selecting a material, clients receive an estimate tailored to their specific project. Once the project moves forward, the Craftsman team takes precise measurements and creates a template.
In a step that sets the company apart from many competitors, customers are invited back to the shop to approve the exact layout before any stone is cut. This allows homeowners to see exactly where seams will fall and how natural veining will appear across their surfaces.
“You get to see your layout before we ever cut it,” Bucher explained. “You can move things around within reason and make sure it’s exactly how you want it.”
Local Fabrication, Rapid Turnaround
While many shops outsource their labor, all fabrication and installation are handled in-house by Bucher’s team. This internal control allows for a competitive five-to-seven-day turnaround time.
“We fabricate our own stone. Not every shop does that,” Bucher said. “Our guys install it, and they communicate directly with the customer.”
That direct line of communication helps resolve concerns immediately, often before the installation crew leaves the home. Bucher also emphasized a commitment to honest pricing, opting for individual job quotes rather than a flat price per square foot.
“We quote based on the job,” he said. “That allows us to be competitive without cutting corners. I’m not going to install something I wouldn’t put in my own home.”
Strategic Partnerships
The Craftsman Countertops showroom also features cabinetry from J&L Bryant Cabinets, owned by Jeffrey Potter. The partnership was born out of a mutual need and shared professional values.
“He needed countertops, I needed cabinets,” Bucher said. “We share the same values.”
Potter echoed the sentiment, noting that their shared business philosophy is simple: “Take care of your customers, treat them right, and word of mouth will carry you.”
J&L Bryant Cabinets provides solid wood construction and soft-close features for both new builds and remodels. The showroom even features unique custom-built stone tables, showcasing the team's ability to create bespoke islands and furniture pieces.
“Quality and relationships. If you do what’s right, you’re going to have repeat customers and repeat contractors.”

Deep Local Roots
For Bucher, a Cookeville native, opening the business was the culmination of years of industry experience. He remains focused on maintaining an American-owned and operated shop where quality is controlled locally.
“The installation, the fabrication, the service—that’s all done right here,” Bucher said.
As new residents continue to stream into the Upper Cumberland, Bucher’s message remains consistent: every job is unique.
“We’re going to walk you through it and make sure you understand exactly what you’re getting,” he said.
