AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY ARREST
PUTNAM COUNTY, TN— On March 31, 2026, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office received a report
from Michigan Child Protective Services regarding allegations of child sex abuse by a family member.
In the early morning hours of April 6, 2026, additional family members met with PCSO Investigator
Greg Wright and brought concerns of another allegation regarding a different child, within the same
family, involving the same suspect.
Later that morning, Investigator Wright observed a forensic interview conducted by the Michigan Child
Advocacy Center, where the victim provided details of the prior allegations.
That same day, at approximately 4:23 PM, PCSO Investigators conducted a mirandized interview with
Richard Oliver McCurdy to discuss these allegations. During the interview, McCurdy confirmed both
allegations and admitted that he did sexually abuse both victims.
Richard Oliver McCurdy was then booked into the Putnam County Jail and charged with 2 counts of
Aggravated Sexual Battery. He has a bond set at $300,000 and a court date of July 9, 2026.
After McCurdy’s arrest, Investigators conducted 2 additional forensic interviews, bringing the total
number of identified victims to 3 at this time.
