Weekly Smile - Sam Lepley

Second grader Sam Lepley of Capshaw Elementary School (Go Cougars!) is proving that age is no barrier to excellence.

Sam was recently crowned the 2025 Tennessee State K-3 Champion at the 2025 Susan Kantor Scholastic Chess Championship. He also claimed victory at the K-3 Nashville City Tournament, adding another impressive title to his growing list of accomplishments.

Even more remarkable, Sam is listed among the National Top 100 chess players in his age group (7 and under).

When he’s not planning strategic chess moves, Sam stays active in YMCA soccer and mountain biking — showing that he’s just as comfortable outdoors as he is at the chessboard.
